A slow Bohemian valley built around mineral springs and Belle Époque grand hotels.
Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is the Czech Republic's grand spa town — pastel colonnades, hot mineral springs, and the Becherovka herbal-liqueur distillery, sitting in a forested valley two hours west of Prague. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (early July) is the trip's annual peak. One or two nights is the right scale; longer only if a spa-treatment stay is the trip's purpose.
