Stay inside Kaleiçi (the walled old town) rather than the modern beach resorts — the old town's narrow Ottoman-era streets, harbour, and pension hotels are the canonical Antalya experience; the resort hotels east of town are anonymous.

Pair the Antalya Museum (one of Turkey's best archaeological collections) with Aspendos's Roman theatre as a single full-day archaeology trip — 50 minutes east by bus or car. Perge can be added if time allows.

Time a Düden Waterfalls visit for the upper falls (Yukarı Düden) in the late afternoon when the heat eases; the lower falls (Aşağı Düden) drop directly into the sea and are the canonical photo angle.

Where should you stay?

Is Antalya a beach destination or a culture destination?

Both, but unevenly. Kaleiçi old town + Antalya Museum + Aspendos make Antalya the strongest culture base on the Turkish Mediterranean; the beach is real but the city beaches (Konyaaltı, Lara) are less canonical than further west on the Lycian coast (Ölüdeniz, Patara). Is Aspendos worth visiting?

What about the Antalya Museum?

Yes — one of Turkey's strongest archaeological collections, with finds from Perge, Aspendos, and the surrounding Pamphylian sites. Allow 2 hours; strong indoor anchor for the hottest part of the day. Pair with a late-afternoon Düden Waterfalls visit.

Should I include Olympos and Chimaera?

Yes if landscape + ruins + a strange natural site (the eternal flames) appeals. The Chimaera (Yanartaş) is genuinely unusual — natural methane fires burning out of the mountainside, best at dusk. Pair with Olympos beach ruins for a full day, or stay overnight in a Yörük Bahçesi-style tree-house lodging for the canonical bohemian-Antalya experience.

Is the Düden Waterfalls visit worth it?

Yes — particularly the lower falls (Aşağı Düden) which drop directly off cliffs into the sea east of town. The upper falls (Yukarı Düden) are smaller but more accessible with park surroundings. Strong late-afternoon timing for both. Combine with a Konyaaltı sunset for a strong half-day pivot.

What's the biggest planning mistake?

Staying in a Lara resort instead of Kaleiçi. The all-inclusive resort experience east of town is anonymous and isolates you from everything that makes Antalya distinctive. Kaleiçi's Ottoman pensions are part of the trip's character; don't skip them.
