A single lakeside village pinned between cliff and water.
Hallstatt is a single village pinned between a lake and a vertical mountain — one of the most photographed villages in Europe and, by midday, one of the most crowded. The trip works only if you stay overnight: day-trippers leave by 5pm and the village resets into a quiet, walkable lakeside place that's genuinely worth the visit. One or two nights is the right scale.
